Overgrown grass irks councillor

Recent rains blamed for over grown grass in Joburg East.

The overgrown grass, along the main roads in Observatory and Kensington, has been called an eye-sore.

The ward 66 councillor, Clr Carlos Da Rocha, said only parts of his ward are being serviced.

“Even the main roads look disgusting and I cannot have that. I understand that the grass has been cut in Troyeville and Bezuidenhout Valley, but my ward does not only consist of these two areas. I also have Bellevue, Observatory and Kensington,” he said

On Thursday last week, the Johannesburg Roads Agency’s marketing and communications operations manager, Ms Bertha Peters-Scheepers, said cutting overgrown grass along major arterial roads has started.

“The grass is overgrown in most areas of the city because of the recent rains we had,” she said.

Ms Peters-Scheepers said the JRA last cultivated in Bezuidenhout Valley in November last year.

Another inquiry was sent to the City Parks spokesperson, Ms Jenny Moodley on Monday, February 22, with a request for comment by Thursday, February 25 at 9am. At the time of going to print, no comment had been received.
