Faith organisation robbed

The officials were robbed in the parking lot of the organisation's premises.

The Cleveland SAPS confirmed that four men robbed a faith-based organisation in Kensington.

A large sum of cash was stolen on Friday, February 19, at about 4pm.

The Cleveland SAPS spokesperson, Constable Mpho Mashakane, said the robbers held security guards at gunpoint while waiting for officials to return from withdrawing money in Bedfordview. She said the robbers took about R60 000 during the robbery.

She said the officials were robbed in the parking lot of the organisation’s premises along Langerman Street in Kensington.

“The four men, who were in a silver-grey BMW, gained entry by following another vehicle that entered the property. Two of the men went into the guard room and held the guards at gunpoint. The other two stayed in the car in the parking lot. When the organisation’s officials, who were returning from the bank arrived, the gate opened as usual. As they were parking, two men from the BMW approached them. One had a firearm in his hand and went to the driver’s side while the other went to the passenger’s side. They demanded the money and took the bag that contained the money,” said Const Mashakane

She said the men also took cellular phones before they fled.

“The two who were in the guardroom opened the gate for their accomplices before jumping into the BMW and fleeing the scene,” Const Mashakane said.
