Vagrant kills another over bread

Mathibe was sentenced on February 16 this year at the Johannesburg Regional Court.

Edgar Mathibe (26) was sentenced to 13 years in prison for stabbing another man to death for a loaf of bread in 2013.

Mathibe was sentenced on February 16 this year at the Johannesburg Regional Court.

The Yeoville SAPS spokesperson, Constable Thabo Malatji, said the two men were vagrants living on the streets of Yeoville.

“On September 27 in 2013, the deceased (26) was eating bread when Mathibe asked him to share with him. When the decease declined, Mathibe took out a knife and stabbed him,” Const Malatji said.

He said the man was declared dead at the scene by paramedics.

“Mathibe was arrested on the scene. During his sentencing, the court declared him unfit to own a firearm,” said Const Malatji.
