Bedfordview SAPS celebrates new Major

According to Maj Makopo, he is not yet done and still has a lot to accomplish.

Since joining the SAPS in 1992, Major Robert Makopo has had no regrets.

He was recently promoted from Captain to Major and, according to Maj Makopo, he is not yet done and still has a lot to accomplish.

Asked how he felt about the new rank, he said the promotion means more than he could express.

“For me, this is like a nod from the powers that be to say my hard work is noticed and that I’m doing something right,” he said.

Earlier this year, Maj Makopo led the Vispol team from the Bedfordview SAPS on a high visibility campaign in the area, where suspects in possession of drugs were nabbed.

Maj Makopo also acted as the station’s Vispol manager.

He said he reminds himself to work harder and better for the safety of the community he serves on a daily basis.

” For me, the service is more than just a job. Anyone who joins the SAPS for money is in the wrong place. I believe I am called to serve and I am honoured to wake up daily and have an opportunity to give Bedforview residents a sense of safety and protection,” said Maj Makopo.

He was transferred to Bedfordview after working at the Primrose Police Station since joining the SAPS. He has never left Vispol.

Maj Makopo said new recruits need to keep in mind that discipline is of utmost importance in the service.

“The other important thing is doing your work to the best of your ability, regardless of who is watching,” he said.

The station’s spokesperson, Warrant Officer Mduduzi Nhlabathi, congratulated Maj Makopo on his promotion.

“The station is happy for him. He deserves the new rank and he has shown those looking up to him that hard work pays off. We wish him well as he continues to serve our people,” said W/O Nhlabathi.

Within the next 10 years, Maj Makopo said he would like to grow within the ranks of the SAPS while continuing to make a difference in people’s lives.
