Suspects rearrested while out on bail

He said the men were out on bail until a detective investigating a theft case started asking questions.

The two men released on bail for possession of housebreaking implements were rearrested just days after their release.

The men were first arrested on February 14 at the intersection of Kloof and Talisman roads following a high-speed chase by the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD).

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Mduduzi Nhlabathi said the men did not stop when officers tried to search them. “The officers gave chase and upon stopping the men they found equipment used in housebreaking incidences. They arrested the duo,” said W/O Nhlabathi.

He said the men were out on bail until a detective investigating a theft case started asking questions.

“A case of theft was reported by one of the petrol stations on Van Buuren Road. The case was allocated to W/O Manzini as the investigating officer. Upon viewing the station’s security footage he realised that the perpetrators were the same men arrested a few days ago. He rearrested them,” said W/O Nhlabathi.

He said police remain committed to its zero-tolerance approach in the fight against crime. “The station is very proud of W/O Manzini and we say well done to him for the sterling work he has done. This should serve as a warning to criminals planning to hit the area that we are out there and they will not get away with any criminal activities in Bedfordview. We are hot on their heels,” said W/O Nhlabathi.

At the time of going to press it was not clear when the suspects would appear in court.
