Motorists apprehend would-be hijackers

Woman's screams alerts motorists.

Motorists apprehended two hijacking suspects at the parking lot next to Cumberland and Allum streets on February 13 after 4pm.

Cleveland SAPS spokesperson Constable Mpho Mashakane said she was approached by two men as she was getting into her car.

“She had just put her groceries in the boot. When she opened the driver’s side door two men approached her. One pointed a firearm at her and instructed her to move to the passenger seat. She moved and opened the passenger door and screamed,” Const Mashakane said.

She said that attracted the attention of other motorists who came to her rescue.

“The two men tried to escape but were apprehended by the motorists. Police were called and a 19-year-old and 25-year-old were arrested,” Const Mashakane said.
