BREAKING NEWS: Shots fired as heavily armed men rob Edenvale Pick n Pay

Shots were reportedly fired inside the store during the robbery.

The Pick n Pay Shopping Centre on Terrace Road was hit by robbers earlier this evening.

Edenvale Community Policing Forum (ECPF) chairperson, Mrs Linda McKenzie said the incident happened just after 7pm.

She said the suspects reported to be between five and six were armed with handguns.

“Some few shoppers tried to exit the store but they were pushed back inside by the suspects. At this stage the amount of money they took off with is unknown. No arrests have been made but the police are investing  as two vehicles were involved,” said Mrs McKenzie.

She said her deputy, Mr Prince Mathebula drove some of the staff members to their respective homes in Tembisa after the incident, which was traumatising to them.

Shots were reportedly fired inside the store during the robbery.

Although initial reports were contradicting as to whether anyone sustained injuries, Mrs McKenzie said no one had been shot.

“Customer’s belongings including money, cell phones and wallets were taken during the robbery,” said Mrs McKenzie.

Police investigations are underway.
