Jeppe SAPS concerned about hijackings

The Jeppe SAPS management is concerned with the spate of hijackings and theft of motor vehicles especially in Bez Valley.

On February 6 at about 9.30pm, Jeppe SAPS arrested a man for hijacking.

Police officers were patrolling in Bertrams when they spotted two cars, a black Audi and a white BMW, with about four occupants in each car, driving at high speed.

The vehicles were spotted at the corner of Berea and Viljoen streets.

According to communication officer, Warrant Officer Richard Munyayi, officers followed the cars while calling for backup.

The cars drove to Joe Slovo and Hunter streets where the suspects were cornered by the police.

The suspects exited the cars and fired shots at the officers, who returned fire.

One suspect was shot and injured. He was arrested at the scene.

His accomplices abandoned the vehicles and fled on foot.

“The arrested suspect, who is a foreign national, was taken to hospital under police guard,” said W/O Munyayi.
