Two Sebenza SAPS officers arrested

One of the officers was arrested on February 9 and one was arrested on February 10.

Two Sebenza SAPS police officers were arrested by the Sebenza SAPS after a suspect was released on Sunday, February 7.

One of the officers was arrested on February 9 and one was arrested on February 10.

The Sebenza SAPS spokesperson, Sergeant Sharon Mahamba-Tsotsotso, said on February 5 a man was arrested for dealing in drugs.

“The suspect was arrested for dealing in drugs. On Sunday when the branch commander was checking the dockets that were supposed to go to court on Monday, he realised that the suspect had been released,” said Sgt Tsotsotso.

Sgt Tsotsotso said the two officers were arrested and charged with extortion, corruption and impersonating a legal representative.

“When a suspect is charged for dealing in drugs, they must appear in court; therefore the suspect was not supposed to be released without appearing in court first,” she said. The two officers appeared in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on February 10.
