Job seeker raped by would-be employer

"We urge our women to meet with potential employers in safe places for interviews."

A woman seeking employment has reported a case of rape against her would-be employer.

According to the Bedfordview SAPS spokesperson, Warrant Officer Mduduzi Nhlabathi, the woman, who is a Bez Valley resident, first met the suspect while she was looking for a job at Bruma Oriental City on January 16.

“The victim reported that on January 22 the suspect gave her directions to his apartment on Leicester and Bradford roads,” said W/O Nhlabathi.

Upon arrival, the suspect raped the woman and forced her to clean his home afterwards.

W/O Nhlabathi said investigations are underway.

He warned members of the community to guard against criminals waiting to take advantage of vulnerable women.

“We urge our women to meet with potential employers in safe places for interviews. Ask relevant questions about the said job and make sure they tell you how many people live on the property and who will be present while you are working. If you suspect it might be unsafe for you, take a friend with you. Our women must not be too trusting because criminals take advantage of your need for employment,” said W/O Nhlabathi.

At the time of going to press, no arrests had been made.
