Positive start to new season for Bennies

The boys performed well, winning seven out of nine matches.

The St Benedict’s College (Bennies) Basketball Club had a good start to the 2016 season, with the club taking on Jeppe in its opening fixture.

The boys performed well, winning seven out of nine matches.

Unfortunately, the first team was one of the two teams to register a loss on the day, going down 64-53 after having led by 12 points in the second quarter and going into the half time break leading 21-19.

A third quarter run by Jeppe opened up a gap which Bennies couldn’t recover from.

The team was paced by a 17 point 13 rebound double-double effort from Captain Shingirai Hlanguyo.

The performance of the day was a dominant 42-12 win from the U/15A team, led by another double-double performance by Nathan Ukunda on his first game back, after a broken wrist ended his third term season early.

Other impressive wins included the U/16A (37-19), second team (21-12) and U/15C (12-3).

The third team won 14-12, the U/16B won 21-17 and the U/15 B team won 10-9.
