#YourStory – Dreams come true when you step out in faith

I actually canvassed my husband.

A photographer from England had ambitions of being a secretary when she leaped out and started an agency based on Christian principals.

Kerry Maginness-Smith, now a resident of Edenvale, has been running an agency for 14 years.

She moved to South Africa after fulfilling her ambitions of being a secretary.

She then ventured into the acting industry for a while.

“God gave me the desire to do something else, that’s when I decided to go into acting. However after being hurt so many times in the industry by people making me do things I didn’t want to do, I decided to open an agency which stood for modesty for women,” she said.

Kerry said when she opened the agency, she had photographers who were too costly and as a result became too expensive to afford for some of her models.

“With the photographers that I had, I didn’t always get the photos I wanted. I didn’t do courses but I went out and bought the equipment I needed. It was a bit of trial and error in the beginning but four years later I had assistance from photographers who showed me how it needs to be done,” she said.

Kerry said she had no choice but to make a success of her new venture because she sold her house to start her agency. She always has the best interests of the models at heart.

She said not only has photography brought her joy by being different and not exposing woman in ways that made them feel uncomfortable, but it led her to her true love, Gordon Smith.

“I went to dinner with my friends and saw Gordon. I actually canvassed my husband. I spotted him and thought he is lovely for the agency. I approached him and told him he should think about joining. He took my card and eventually contacted me,” she said.

Kerry and Gordon were called to audition for a movie where they were cast to play a couple in the movie.

“This happened before we started dating. I ended marrying my co-star,” she said.

She said if she did not take a leap in faith she would not be where she is right now.

“God has done so much in my life and I will always be grateful for the journey he has chosen for me,” said Kerry.
