Edenvale CPF unveils its 2016 plans

Mrs McKenzie said sending information and making use of the available platforms works.

At the first Edenvale Community Police Forum (ECPF) meeting for 2016, plans to take back Edenvale were emphasised.

The ECPF chairperson, Mrs Linda McKenzie, said the community must unite in the fight against crime.

“I hope 2016 will show that we will stand together as one in the Edenvale community. We are going to take back what belongs to us by creating relationships with one another through means of communication,” she said.

She said being a part of the available groups on What’sApp and other social pages contributes to forwarding information for the community to be involved and alerted.

By notifying one another, it will be easier to assist and alert other community members as well as SAPS of any suspicious behaviour in the areas.

Mrs McKenzie said one of the forum’s current concerns is car guards.

“These guards have to be registered. Car guards will be removed if they are not registered – some are lookouts,” she said.

Lieutenant Colonel Jimmy Munzhelele said the community needs to be alert at all times. He said the current problem areas in Edenvale are Illiondale, Eastleigh and Greenstone.

Patrol vehicles will be visible in these areas as well as others to ensure the safety of the community. We have also participated in a project in Greenstone on January 27 where the SAPS and the CPF handed out safety tips to all shoppers,” said Lt Col Munzhelele.

Mrs McKenzie said sending information and making use of the available platforms works.

“It allows for the community to work together and assist one another. The CPF will also be involved in joint operations with the SAPS. The community needs to speak out and report corruption if they have been intimidated,” said Mrs McKenzie.

Station Commander Colonel Eddie Trollip said 22 suspects were arrested on drug-related charges during January.

“Housebreakings were very low until January 27, when five occurred in one day. House robberies are another concern as seven has been reported thus far,” he said.

During December, 25 cases of theft out of motor vehicle, 21 cases of residential burglaries and four cases of house robberies were reported.

Three hijackings were reported in the same month.

“A special thank you to the community for their support and assistance in patrolling the area. You have been doing a wonderful job,” said Col Trollip.
