An investigation into cellular phone theft led to the recovery of abalone, an unlicensed firearm, ammunition and cash worth more than R1-million from a property along Rollo Street in Cyrildene on Wednesday last week.
The Cleveland SAPS spokesperson, Constable Mpho Mashakane, said the special law enforcement unit arrested a a 30-year-old foreign national shortly after 6pm.
“The police were following up on information about cellular phones that were stolen from Northgate Mall recently. When arriving at this address, police officers recovered the mentioned items leading to the arrest of the man,” she said.
Const Mashakane said the man was charged for contravening the Living Marine Resource Act, possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, possession of suspected stolen cellular phones and money laundering.
The matter was transferred to the SAPS’ Organised Crime Unit.
