Thanks to the glistening trail, Jeppe SAPS police officers were able to arrest a 45-year-old man.

A trail of cooking oil led police investigators to the suspect in a business robbery.

Thanks to the glistening trail,  Jeppe SAPS police officers were able to arrest a 45-year-old man, following a robbery at a shop along First Street in Bezuidenhout Valley.

The incident took place on Saturday, January 16, shortly after 2am.

The Jeppe SAPS spokesperson, Warrant Officer Richard Munyayi, said the shop owner was woken up by other tenants who said there were people in the shop.

“As they were talking, they saw a car speeding away. When the police officers arrived, they noticed that groceries and a chip fryer were among the items stolen. The officers also noticed an oil trail from the shop. It led them to a property not far from the shop,” said W/O Munyayi.

He said a car was found with all the loot still inside.

The owner was arrested and will appear in court soon.
