Off-duty policeman shot during hijacking

A Yeoville SAPS member is in a stable condition in hospital after he was shot during a hijacking.

A Yeoville SAPS member is in a stable condition in hospital after he was shot during a hijacking on Thursday, January 14, shortly after 8pm.

The Yeoville SAPS spokesperson, Constable Thabo Malatji, said the officer was off duty when the incident occurred.
“The officer had stopped at a stop sign at the intersection of Joe Slovo and Michelle streets in Berea. He was approached by two armed men. One man pushed the gun through the open front window. He shot the officer in the foot and ordered him to get out of the car,” said Const Malatji.
The men drove off in the officer’s vehicle, leaving him on the side of the road.
Const Malatji said the officer called for help as the men drove off.
