Painter Ms Alma Vorster was born in the Free State and is a versatile painter who paints in all mediums.

Ms Vorster attended the Teachers’ College in Pretoria and then taught accountancy at the Hope Home in Johannesburg.

She also completed a BCom and was head of the Secretarial Section of the Pretoria College for 20 years.

Early retirement in 2000 gave her more time for art.

She became an associate of the WSSA, then a fellow and eventually served as National Chairman from 2008 to 2010. Ms Alma Vorster has published articles on art in the Aquarelle and recently in Issue 20 of the South African Artist, she had a photo article on Watercolour Batik.

She has been teaching art, doing demos and workshops for many years. Last year she also hosted two workshops in the USA and was honoured to be appointed Artist of the Year for the Centurion Art Association.

She will be demonstrating a different approach to portraiture: Oil rubbing of an old man’s face and a quick use of Pit Pencils and watercolours to do another portrait.

The demonstration will take place on January 16 at the Edenvale Community Centre.

Everyone is welcome join the Paint and Palette Group at the corner of Van Riebeeck Avenue and 2nd Street.

The demonstration will start at 2pm. The entrance fee is R50 for visitors and R20 for members – including refreshments.

Membership fees for 2016 are the same as last year, R170.
