Alert officers nab thieves

“Just few meters from them we saw a car parked with a broken rear window."

A car guard was arrested for theft out of a motor vehicle and malicious damage to property in Yeoville on Wednesday, January 13.

The Yeoville SAPS spokesperson, Constable Thabo Malatji, said he and his colleague were patrolling along Larry Street when they noticed four men running in the opposite direction.

“Just few meters from them we saw a car parked with a broken rear window. We drove back and stopped them. As we were searching them, we noticed that one of the men was holding a jersey with glass particles on it. While we were questioning them, the car owner arrived. He recognised one the men as the one who had helped him park his car earlier,” said Const Malatji.

The men confessed that the laptop was taken by the three friends who fled in a different direction.

Const Malatji said the four men are expected to appear in the Hillbrow Magistrate’s Court soon. The other three suspects are still on the run.
