Children delighted at Santa’s visit

Scuba diving instructor Mr Mathew Clark assumed the role of Santa Clause at Christmas to deliver presents to children in Modderfontein.

Mr Clark was on holiday from his Thailand base to spend time with his mother in Lakeside Village in Modderfontein.

It was his mother who suggested that he should embark on this initiative. He printed up some flyers and handed them out at the Lakeside and Thornhill Estate gates.

Ms Ann Raats of the Thornhill Manner Retirement Village in Lakeside jumped at the chance to surprise her two great-grandchildren who were visiting from Hoedspruit.

She arranged to have Mr Clark deliver presents to them on Christmas Day.

“The children could not believe their eyes when they saw Santa coming up the path,” said Ms Raats.

“The whole experience was magic. The two little boys had written thank you letters to Santa for the presents they had already received. They were beside themselves when they were able to hand them over personally. The letters were lovely and really moved me deeply,” said Mr Clark.
