Little Eden staff thanked for their dedication

Each of the 300 children and adults has a profound intellectual disability, in most cases accompanied by some form of physical disability.

Little Eden residents thanked hard working staff members at a recent year-end function.

At Little Eden, 257 members of staff are employed to ensure the continued and consistent loving care and development of the 300 residents who live at the society’s two homes.

The staff work in shifts so that there are personnel on duty 24 hours a day, throughout the year.

The residents are divided between the Domitilla and Danny Hyams Home in Edenvale and the Elvira Rota Village in Bapsfontein.

Each of the 300 children and adults has a profound intellectual disability, in most cases accompanied by some form of physical disability.

The staff have to be extremely patient and understanding, giving of themselves day in and day out.

Being a staff member at Little Eden is not just a job, it is a calling.

It requires a firm belief in the value of people with intellectual disabilities, as well as the necessary dedication and patience to be able to carry out the same work every day.

The staff members were thanked and each received a special gift from the residents.

“Little Eden management and residents join me in thanking you and acknowledging the various roles each one of you play as we continue, for the 49th year, serving the people of Little Eden,” said the CEO of Little Eden, Ms Lucy Slaviero.

She said the most important thing is always working together as a team and as a family.

“Thank you all for what you have given of yourself this year to ensure the ongoing love and care of our angels, allowing them to smile, laugh, learn and develop – each at his/her own level and at his/her own pace,” she said.

Staff members expressed their appreciation to management and the residents by singing songs of gratitude and spending time with colleagues and friends while enjoying some refreshments.
