A 30-year-old man is in stable condition in hospital after he was beaten by the Malvern community for allegedly killing his girlfriend on Sunday, December 13, shortly before 11pm.
The Cleveland SAPS spokesperson, Constable Mpho Mashakane, said the woman was visiting her boyfriend from Cape Town when they had an argument at the boyfriend’s house on Persimmon Street.
“The woman packed her clothes and walked out. The boyfriend followed her. The argument intensified at the corner of Persimmon and Loch streets. He stabbed her with a knife,” said Const Mashakane.
She said when he tried to run away, members of the community chased him and beat him.
Const Mashakane said the man was rescued by the police and taken to hospital.
“He is under police guard in hospital and has been charged with murder,” she said.
The woman was certified dead at the scene by paramedics.
