The Modderfontein breakfast club held its last meeting for 2015 on December 12.

The Modderfontein Breakfast Club held its last meeting for 2015 on December 12.

It was a special celebration with one of their members, Ms Barbara Hardaker, completing her Competent Communicator award on the day with her inspiring speech about her story.

Ms Sandra Cooper, he Programme Quality Director for the Southern Africa region, joined the meeting to recognise the significant achievements made by the club and the members during the year.

The club achieved the top accolade during the 2014/2015 year, being the Presidents Distinguished Club, and also the top club within the Division (Eastern Johannesburg), under the leadership of Mr Bryant Rajuili.

The club also achieved the award for treasurer’s excellence during this period.

Ms Karen Armour achieved a triple-crown award for achieving three educational goals during a year, club emissary for visiting other clubs and the top accolade that any Toastmaster can achieve, that of becoming the club’s first Distinguished Toastmaster.

As has become customary within Modderfontein Toastmasters, a collection for a worthy cause was also made at the meeting for The Jesse Foord foundation, a foundation that assists survivors of rape.

The club collected handbags and toiletries, as well as a cash donation, towards the expenses incurred by the foundation.

These items were handed over to Ms Sbusisiwe Nxumalo, who is a member of Modderfontein and also a volunteer at the Jesse Foord foundation. Ms Nxumalo has touched many members’hearts during the year with speeches about this foundation and the work they do within the community, which was one of the leading factors when a charity was selected to honour this year.
