Suspects shoot at officer

The occupants started to shoot at the officer and he shot back.

The Bedfordview SAPS is investigating a case of attempted murder of a police officer and attempted theft of motor vehicle.

This comes after an officer on patrol duty was shot at on Abroath Road in the early hours of Thursday morning last week.

The Bedfordview SAPS spokesperson, Warrant Officer Mduduzi Nhlabathi, said the officer saw a white Golf 5 GTI parked outside a property at the intersection of Ben Rhydign and Abroath roads.

“When he approached, the car started to reverse. The officer then blocked off the road. The occupants started to shoot at the officer and he shot back. The suspects then hooted for their friend who came running from inside a nearby property. They drove off,” said W/O Nhlabathi.

He said when the officer went to check on the property he found the suspects had forced the gate open and had damaged the ignition of a car they were attempting to steal.

No arrests have been made yet.

W/O Nhlabathi said police investigations are underway.
