The 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children is an international awareness-raising campaign.

It takes place every year from November 25 to December 10.

The campaign aims to create a greater awareness to eradicate gender-based violence. Over 2 000 community members, women and children participated in the event which included a cycle, run and walk challenge between Rhodes Park and Bezuidenhout Park.

There was plenty of entertainment for the whole family as the City ensured the children were kept busy with face painting, jumping castles and much more.

South Africa adopted the campaign in 1998 as one of the intervention strategies towards creating a society free of violence. The campaign continues to raise awareness among South Africans about the negative impact of violence against women and children. Some of the objectives of this campaign include attracting all South Africans to be active participants in the fight to stop violence against women and children. The government also aims to encourage society to acknowledge that violence against women and children is not a government or criminal justice system problem, but a societal problem.
