No service due to Christmas party

Security officers told the residents who wanted to use it that the site was closed due to the Ekurhuleni Christmas party.

The Edenvale mini-site and transfer station in Sebenza was closed on Friday.

Security officers told the residents who wanted to use it that the site was closed due to the Ekurhuleni Christmas party.

There was a notification informing residents to use the Simmer and Jack Landfill site.

This left many residents irritated and frustrated.

A security guard at the gate said some residents did not take kindly that they had to go to Germiston.

“Another man was screaming and shouting at us. It was not us who gave the employees a day off. He even left his refuse bags at the gate,” said a security guard who did not want to be named because he was scared of victimisation.

He denied the rumours that the site was closed due to the South African Municipality Workers Union (Samwu) strike.

“The site will be open tomorrow (December 5). It is closed because there is a Christmas party today. Tomorrow everything is going back to normal,” the security guard said.

The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality’s (EMM) spokesperson, Mr Themba Gadebe, said the employees were at the municipality’s annual event.

“We request residents to bare with us for this one day. Tomorrow we will be back to our normal routine. We apologise for the inconvenience caused,” said Mr Gadebe.
