Joint op leads to 14 arrests

Be alert!

The Edenvale SAPS and Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) had a successful joint operation, ridding the streets of individuals driving under the influence of alcohol.

The Edenvale SAPS’ acting spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Robbie Roberts, said motorists should refrain from driving under the influence of alcohol as it poses an increased risk of accidents and injuries to themselves and others using the roads.

He said during the operation, 14 people were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Lt Col Roberts urged motorists to ensure their vehicles are locked.

“Theft out of motor vehicles is increasing. People should not lock their cars from a distance because it creates an opportunity for crime. Valuables should also not be left in sight and cars should not be parked in isolated areas,” said Lt Col Roberts.

In addition, the SAPS along with Netstar’s assistance, recovered a stolen vehicle on December 2.

“The suspect took his parents’ vehicle and the car was traced and recovered. The suspect appeared in the Edenvale Magistrate’s Court on November 3. He was in possession of drugs and other stolen property,” he said.

Lt Col Roberts is still urging the community as well as business owners to be alert and aware of their surroundings.

Suspicious behaviour also needs to be reported.
