Diamond celebration for couple

The recipe to a long marriage is to keep to your marriage vows.

The 60th wedding anniversary for Mrs Doreen and Mr Bill Wedderburn marks a milestone for the couple.

The couple, who have been active citizens of Bedfordview since 1962, recently celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary.

They were married in Eaglesham, Scotland, in 1955 and immigrated to South Africa in 1957. They became South African citizens in 1962.

Family members from afar made their way to join in the couple’s celebration.

The celebrations started on September 21, when Mr Wedderburn’s brother arrived from the UK.

The couple also invited 15 Bedfordview and Edenvale friends to a restaurant in Bedford Centre.

The combined number of years of marriage between the couples present exceeded 300 years.

Mr and Mrs Wedderburn then treated the family to a special weekend at the Rhino River Lodge in Kwa-Zulu Natal.

The couple was pleasantly surprised when they received a congratulatory card from Queen Elizabeth.

Mr Bill Wedderburn said the recipe to a long marriage is to keep to your marriage vows.
