Two men were arrested after a Malvern businessman was locked inside a fridge during a robbery on December 1 at about 10pm.

The Cleveland SAPS spokesperson, Constable Mpho Mashakane, said six men entered a shop on Persimmon Street while the owner was closing up for the night.

She said two of the men had firearms.

“They demanded money. He gave them R3 000 which was in his pocket. They told him it was not enough. They tied up his wife, took her cellular phone and took more money,” said Const Mashakane.

The men locked the businessman in the fridge before they fled the scene.

“The man managed to kick down the door to the fridge,” said Const Mashakane.

Following investigations, two men were arrested and a firearm was recovered.
