Residents support climate change march

Water expert, researcher and scientist, Dr Anthony Turton, addressed the residents before the walk kicked off.

Bedfordview residents answered the water crisis experienced in recent weeks by joining the Global Climate March held in Bedfordview on November 29.

The walk coincided with World Climate Change Day.

The residents came out in large numbers to support the march, which started at the Oriel stream and proceeded to the banks of the Jukskei River in Morninghill.

Water expert, researcher and scientist, Dr Anthony Turton, addressed the residents before the walk kicked off.

He spoke about water shortages and how residents can change their daily habits to save water.

The walk for water was also held in other countries to urge leaders to avoid catastrophic climate change.

The march was aimed at encouraging people to rise to the challenge and make the biggest climate mobilisation ever.

“The world is in trouble and we pushed it to this stage. We need to fix the problem. We need to take a stand and we also call on our own president to take a stance as water means life.

“Anyone can be part of the change needed,” said Prof Turton.
