‘Be alert’ – Edenvale SAPS

Business owners should continuously ensure that alarms and panic buttons are working to their full capacity.

Business robberies remain a concern in Edenvale.

The Edenvale SAPS acting spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Robbie Roberts, said at last week’s Edenvale Community Police Forum meeting, residents should be alert at all times.

He said business owners should continuously ensure that alarms and panic buttons are working to their full capacity.

“Business owners have to report any suspicious people immediately. Suspects are targeting businesses, especially before closing time in the evenings,” said Lt Col Roberts.

He said the security at Stoneridge notified the SAPS of a suspicious vehicle on Friday, November 20.

The SAPS responded and observed the vehicle from a distance before approaching.

“We found the individuals in the car with three unlicensed firearms. Following a profile, we found that the vehicle was reported as stolen in Vanderbijlpark,” he said.

Among other concerns, Lt Col Roberts said there have been a number of cases reported on suspects following residents home from malls as well as airports.

He said these cases were reported from Greenstone, Dowerglen and the Avenues.

“The community needs to we aware of their surroundings. If a suspicious vehicle seems to be following them, they need to drive to the police station or inform a friend and family member,” he said.

Lt Col Roberts said suspects observe their victims to see if they have flashy jewellery or other valuables on them.

He said the community should be alert at all times, not just doing the festive season.
