Guard shot in head during robbery

The men took a bag that was in the car. He could not confirm if there was jewellery or money in the bag.

A security guard was taken to hospital in a serious condition after he was shot in the head.

The incident occurred along Roberts Avenue and King Edward Street in Kensington, on Tuesday morning shortly after 11am.

The Jeppe SAPS spokesperson, Warrant Officer Richard Monyayi, said the security guard was driving an unmarked VW Golf 6 when the occupants of a Mercedes Benz C Class shot at him.

“He stopped at the traffic circle when two men exited the Mercedes and shot at him. He was struck in the head,” said W/O Monyay.

The men took a bag that was in the car. He could not confirm if there was jewellery or money in the bag.

Three firearms belonging to the security guard and his company were recovered in his car.
