12 arrested for involvement in rhino poaching activities including three police officers

During the raids police confiscated rhino horns valued at R1.4-million, 13 unlicensed firearms and six luxury vehicles.

A joint operation led by the Hawks resulted in the arrest of 12 people allegedly involved in rhino poaching activities, including three police officers.

According to reports the suspects were apprehended in Germiston, Edenvale, Bedfordview and Pretoria.

During the raids police confiscated rhino horns valued at R1.4-million, 13 unlicensed firearms and six luxury vehicles.

Police also recovered more than R1-million in cash.

The suspects are due to appear in the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court on today.

They face various charges, including racketeering, rhino poaching and corruption for the three officers.
