Robertson family shares 49 years of memories

Milner Grove is unlike any other residential development in the area and offers residents much more than just an upmarket urban estate lifestyle.

The latest residential development to take place in Bedfordview will be in St Andrews’ Milner Avenue.

The development will be in and around the heritage home that housed the Robertson family for over 40 years.

Mrs Joan Kilfoil said her parents, Mr John and Mrs Sylvian Robertson, bought the house in 1966 from the Husted family. It was built for them in the 1950s by Mr Steffen Ahrends, an architect who died in 1992.

The property group, Lew Geffen Sotheby’s International Realty, has promised a state-of-the-art luxury and energy-efficient sectional title development.

Area specialist, Ms Charlene Leibman, said Milner Grove is unlike any other residential development in the area and offers residents much more than just an upmarket urban estate lifestyle.

“The estate offers a choice of 18 garden townhouses, as well as five apartments in the iconic heritage home that anchors the entire development,” said Ms Leibman.

Mrs Kilfoil said when her parents bought 49 years ago, it was one of three houses in the area.

Her father passed on in 1998 and her mother will celebrate her 104th birthday in January.

She said her parents celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in the house.

“One of the greatest highlights for us was all the family gatherings. The Christmas parties were the best times for us. They had become a tradition and that is one of my fondest memories in the house. We had weddings, birthdays and many family celebrations in this house. It will always have a special place in our hearts,” she said.

Her parents had five children; one boy and four girls.

Mrs Kilfoil said one of her sisters, Mrs Sandra Carstens, has taught ballet for over 49 years.

Units are currently for sale off plan and due to break ground early next year. Completion is scheduled for early 2017.
