Man and woman nabbed for shoplifting

"Don't accept offers from people who want to pay for your items using their accounts in return for cash."

Over the past week, the Bedfordview SAPS arrested a man and woman for shoplifting.

The woman was nabbed as she walked out of Woolworths at the Eastgate Shopping Centre with 12 brassieres (commonly known as bras).

The Bedfordview SAPS spokesperson, Warrant Officer Mduduzi Nhlabathi, said as the woman walked out of the store, the security label went off, alerting security and staff members.

“The woman was unable to produce proof of payment for the items in her possession,” said W/O Nhlabathi.

He said the bras were valued at R2 388.

The woman was arrested and detained at the Bedfordview SAPS.

On the same day, a man was arrested for trying to leave Edgars with Puma boots.

“A man on duty at the store spotted the suspect and stopped to search him. He found him with the boots. The man also failed to produce proof of payment for the boots,” said W/O Nhlabathi.

He encouraged store managers to always ensure their staff members are careful at all times.

“The same goes for shoppers themselves. Don’t accept offers from people who want to pay for your items using their accounts in return for cash. Pay for your own items and leave the store,” said W/O Nhlabathi.

Meanwhile, a case of theft was opened against a staff member in Meadowdale. According to W/O Nhlabathi, the woman was seen taking a razor and putting it in her pocket by a security guard through a CCTV camera.

He said the razor was worth R16.
