More than eight water meters stolen in one night

Councillor calls for better action against water meter theft.

More than eight water meters were stolen between Sunday evening to Monday morning.

The ward 66 councillor, Clr Carlos da Rocha, said such incidents of theft are on the increase and the situation needs special attention.

Clr Da Rocha said this has turned out to be a daily occurrence.

“It is affecting the water pressure for the whole neighbourhood.  Some residents even think there is a water-shedding,” he said.

A large amount of water is lost when water meters are stolen.

“It so sad to see water flowing through the streets, especially when the whole country is asked to save water. The infrastructure is also being damaged. We need to find a better way to deal with this,” he said.

Clr Da Rocha thanked Joburg Water for its quick response.
