EMM addresses tree concerns

The metro's parks division is currently maintaining and attending to all the tree maintenance requests that have been received.

The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM) advised residents of the necessary steps when reporting overgrown trees.

Following a number of concerns from Edenvale residents about trees in their streets, the council has said the trees on council property, including pavements, are the responsibility of the EMM’s Parks Division’s to trim.

According to the EMM’s spokesperson, Mr Themba Gadebe, the metro’s parks division is currently maintaining and attending to all the tree maintenance requests that have been received.

“It should be noted that the metro’s parks division is no longer doing preventative maintenance of street trees, but attends to tree complaints as per request and complaint received,” said Mr Gadebe.

He said for trimming and the removal of trees in streets, residents should contact the metro parks depot in Edenvale on 011 999-3172/45 or send an e-mail to Sibongile.Makhaya@ekurhuleni.gov.za
