Speaker to talk about granite dome

The main subject of the talk will be the contentious issue of the Halfway House Granite Dome (HHGD).

The Modderfontein Conservation Society evening talk will be held in the Town Hall on November 19 at 7:30pm.

The main subject of the talk will be the contentious issue of the Halfway House Granite Dome (HHGD).

Mr Johan van der Waals, the owner of Terra Science, will give a talk on Wetland Delineation Challenges on the HHGD.

These are numerous and have implications which are significant in terms land degradation, soil erosion, wetland destruction and sediment generation.

“The area covered by the HHGD is at the centre of residential and commercial developments mainly due to its location in the Gauteng Province, from the northern sections of the City of Johannesburg with a small distribution on the southern edge of the City of Tshwane, and on the eastern edge of Mogale City,” said Mr van der Waals.

Some of the issues surrounding the HHGD include the legal context of wetland delineation and conservation, practical wetland delineation challenges, impacts of different types of development on wetlands, the impact of poor storm water planning and measures to address the above challenges.

Visitors are welcome. An entrance fee of R30 will be charged to help cover expenses.
