Water tankers deployed to Bedfordview as reservoirs run dry

Signal Hill and Malvern East Reservoirs both have insufficient water to supply the area.

Bedfordview residents are encouraged to use water sparingly.

This comes after the announcement that two reservoirs supplying the area have run dry.

In a statement, Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM) said it is aware of the interruption in supply and had deployed water tankers to the area.

“Stationary 10 kilolitres water tankers have been provided for domestic use and drinking purposes. The municipality wishes to apologise for any inconvenience caused and reminds consumers to keep taps closed at all times,” said spokesperson Mr Themba Gadebe.

Signal Hill and Malvern East Reservoirs both have insufficient water to supply the area.

The tankers will be at the following areas:

*Corner Riley Road and Townsend Street.
*Corner Kloof Road and Van Der Linde Street.
*Corner Harper and Van Buuren roads (near Virgin Active).
*Leicester road (near bedfordview clinic).

In September 2014, EMM revealed plans to build two reservoirs and bring in six water tankers come June 2015.

This followed last year’s week long water shortage which residents dubbed a crisis.

So far, it is not known how long it would take before the reservoirs were filled.
