The man arrested in connection with the Rhodes Park double murder and rape has allegedly confessed.
This is according to sources close to the investigation.
The Gauteng SAPS spokesperson, Colonel Lungelo Dlamini, said the man appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court today but would not confirm rumors of the alleged confession.
The suspect, who was nabbed during the early hours of last Friday morning, is reported to have been positively linked to the crimes that left the community of Kensington fuming.
According to the source, investigators took the suspect back to the scene of the crime on Sunday.
“The suspect took the police to the park’s storm water drain system, also known as the tunnel. It is believed he and his accomplices escaped through the system,” said the source.
On October 17, just before 7pm, two couples who were at the park were attacked by 12 men. The men assaulted the husbands, tied their hands with their clothes and threw them into the lake. They left them to drown. One of the wives was gang-raped by the suspects.
The SAPS is following up on positive links to the suspects still at large.
