Nine promotions for SAPS staff

While wishing them well, Col Shiburi encouraged the members to work even harder than they did previously.

Nine members of the Bedfordview SAPS were promoted last Wednesday.

According to the station commander, Colonel Sevha Shiburi, the members, who moved up a rank, were promoted on merit.

While wishing them well, Col Shiburi encouraged the members to work even harder than they did previously.

“A higher rank comes with a bigger responsibility. So I expect you to work even harder now,” he said.

Among the members promoted from Constable to Sergeant is Sgt George Manala, who was awarded the Top Cop of the Year award in 2014.

Sgt Manala was also awarded the Top Cop of the Month award five consecutive times. Between April and August 2014, he made 90 arrests, most of which were drug-related.

Also promoted are Sgt Sam Baloyi and an officer from the Crime Intelligence Unit who cannot be named due to the sensitivity of her work.

The following officers were promoted to the rank of Warrant Officer, W/O Mduduzi Nhlabathi, W/O Moeti Phali, W/O Phindiso Maninsthana and W/O Elias Kgobe.

The officers were congratulated by their colleagues and station management during a monthly station lecture hosted at the Bedfordview Methodist Church last Thursday.
