Man dies after being shot in genitals during hijacking

“His brother saw him coming back after parking his car. He was without his trousers and underwear. He had bullet wounds to his genitals and stomach."

A shop owner died after he was shot in the genitals and stomach during a hijacking in Malvern on October 20.

The incident took place shortly after 10pm.

The Cleveland SAPS communications officer, Constable Mpho Mashakane, said the man had closed his shop and went to park his bakkie at a premises at the corner of Persimmon and Frere streets when the incident occurred.

“His brother saw him coming back after parking his car. He was without his trousers and underwear. He had bullet wounds to his genitals and stomach,” said Const Mashakane.

She said the shop owner died at the scene.

“A 30-year-old man was arrested in Jeppe where a vehicle was also recovered,” she said.

Const Mashakane said the police are following other leads and more arrests are imminent.
