Christmas party to cheer the needy

"I urge all our patients, as well as businesses, to come forward and minister their time to the elderly.

The festive season is upon us and, as per tradition, the Kloof Road Medical Centre has launched this year’s installment of its annual outreach programme for the needy.

The project is the brainchild of Mrs Eve Moodley.

Started in 2013, the project has touched many lives.

Mrs Moodley said benefiting from the programme this year will be the Solheim Home for the Elderly in Primrose.

“I urge all our patients, as well as businesses, to come forward and minister their time to the elderly.

“As much as we need donations of supplies, we also need people to come through and spend time with the elderly,” said Mrs Moodley.

She said residents can drop off their donations at the centre.

“Items needed include toiletries, bath soap, toothpaste and brushes, face cloths, body and hand lotion and lip ice.

The event is set to take place on December 5, when each resident at the home will be given a goodie bag as well as lunch.

Last year the centre showered homeless people and those living in dilapidated houses in Brakpan with groceries.

She said her passion for people pushes her to always want to help the next person.

“It is important for me that as a community, we make it possible for the less advantaged to have a warm meal and great company every Christmas,” she said.

Mrs Moodley said residents wanting to offer support to the project can contact her on 011 616-4400.
