Landscaping nears an end at Bruma Lake

The second phase of landscaping has nearly reached its end at Bruma Lake.

The first phase included draining the lake and drying the silt.

The Jukskei River was diverted from the centre of the lake, giving way to the construction of the channel.

The Bruma Lake rehabilitation project is a result of years of complaints from residents and businesses about the bad smell emanating from the lake.

The stench of the lake has been eliminated and now residents will be able to enjoy a pleasant shopping experience in Bruma.

Providing an update on the latest developments regarding the upgrade, the ward 118 councillor, Clr Mike Spadino, said the refurbishing of the lake is nearing an end and the park will be opening soon.

He said the water contamination was caused by washing powder, motor oil, sewage, litter and other debris flowing into the lake from the Jukskei River. He says they have dealt with the problem.

In addition, he said the flooring of the river will help in allowing the river to flow.

“They are done with the refurbishment of the pillars of the bridge and are now waiting for the bridge to be installed. They are busy with the little details. The play area has been put up and as soon as the bridge is put back, they will then continue laying the remaining grass,” said Clr Spadino.
