Pupils to march against bullying tomorrow

Residents and motorists are reminded that for the duration of the march, from Horwood's Farm to Karaglen Shopping Centre, Baker Road will be closed.

It is estimated that around 2 000 school pupils will participate in the 2015 Tiles4Change march which will take place on Friday.

Residents and motorists are reminded that for the duration of the march, from Horwood’s Farm to Karaglen Shopping Centre, Baker Road will be closed.

The march will start at 9.45am and the children are expected to arrive at the shopping centre at 10.45am

The theme for this year’s event is anti-bullying.

Children from other schools as well as residents are invited to join the children tomorrow.

In conjunction with the annual walk, Tiles4Change has also launched an initiative in several schools which aims to equip pupils with a life skill which will help them deal with bullies in all spheres of their lives.

Edenvale schools selected to be part of the initial rollout of the programme pledged their full support for the initiative.

Pupils taking part in this year’s event have also challenged others to join them on the day to stand up against bullying.

Pupils from schools around Edenvale will march from Horwood’s Farm up Baker Road to Karaglen Shopping Centre.

The Tiles4Change committee have worked around the clock to ensure that this year’s march is bigger and better than previous years.

Several events have been planned to entertain the pupils, before, during and after their walk from Horwood’s Farm to the Karaglen Shopping Centre.

In October 2013, over 800 school pupils marched to the Karaglen Shopping Centre with various community role-players, including the Edenvale SAPS, the NEWS and management from the Karaglen Shopping Centre.

At the march, children stood up and let their voices be heard against the abuse of drugs in schools and the community at large.

Last year 1 800 pupils took to the streets to stand up against human trafficking, bullying, domestic violence and drug abuse.

Tiles4Change was launched in 2013 with the aim of assisting those most vulnerable in the community, the children.

Money raised through various initiatives run by Tiles4Change is ploughed back into various initiatives to aid school children.

Not only has Tiles4Change made a difference in the lives of numerous children, the campaign has also been nationally recognised for its participation in the community.

Over the past two years, Tiles4Change was nominated as a finalist in the South African of the Year Awards hosted by ANN7 and was also the recipient of the Highly Commended Award in the category of Best Original Idea at the 2014 national Caxton Excellence Awards.
