An undisclosed amount of money was taken this morning during an armed robbery along Van Buuren Road.

The Bedfordview SAPS spokesperson, Warrant Officer Mduduzi Nhlabathi, said the incident happened at about 7:30am.

He said security guards driving two cars transporting money between two companies were stopped by between five and seven suspects in a white bakkie. “The suspects shot at the escorting car, a white VW Polo. The suspects then jumped out of their vehicle and went straight to the car carrying the cash. They took the money and sped off,” said W/O Nhlabathi.

One guard was shot in the upper body and was taken to hospital.

“At this point, however, I cannot comment on his condition,” said W/O Nhlabathi.
