Cops follow leads to make arrests

"We assure our people that all cases are taken seriously and treated as a priority."

The Bedfordview SAPS spokesperson, Warrant Officer Nhlabathi, said the station is following all possible leads to bring criminals to book.

This follows two shooting incidents that rocked the area last week.

The incidents, which took place on Van Buuren and Kloof roads, had residents living in fear for their lives.

W/O Nhlabathi said the incidents were isolated.

“No further details can be made public at this point due to the sensitivity of investigation, but we assure our people that all cases are taken seriously and treated as a priority,” he said.

One of the incidents took place on Van Buuren Road, when a 43-year-old-man who had collected an undisclosed amount of cash from a Chinese national in Eastgate, was accosted by an unknown number of suspects. The suspects opened fire on the car he was driving, forcing it to an abrupt halt.

During the second incident, a security guard was shot at when he tried to help motorists involved in an accident at the corner of Van Buuren and Kloof roads.

According to W/O Nhlabathi, a BMW crashed into a Mercedes Benz at the intersection.

“The guard stopped his car to help and as he was approaching, the occupants of the BMW fired shots at him. A shootout ensued. The occupants of the BMW took the guard’s vehicle and fled the scene,” he said.
