Philatelic society ready for exhibition

This is an opportunity for anyone interested in postage stamps to see varied collections and to speak to people in the know.

The Edenvale Philatelic Society (EPS) will celebrate National Postage Stamp Day at the Greenstone Shopping Centre on October 10.

This is an opportunity for anyone interested in postage stamps to see varied collections and to speak to people in the know.

Members of the EPS will have a number of exhibits on show.

There will also be a competition, featuring a large jar with over 1 000 stamps. The jar can be won by guessing how many stamps are in the jar. The guess closest to the actual number of stamps in the jar will win. Sample bags of postage stamps will also be handed out.

“People can bring their collections along for discussion, or simply stop by for a chat about the exhibits or collecting in general,” said the EPS president, Mr Colin Bousfield.

“Collecting stamps is an absorbing and educational hobby which is available to anyone and everyone,” he said.

“Collections vary from formal country-by-country types to themes such as trains, planes, birds and butterflies. While the average age of stamp collectors is probably over 60, we are really keen to attract younger people who might like to revive a childhood interest and even younger people, who may only now start a collection. Foremost in our minds is to promote the hobby and make it a fun thing to do,” said Mr Bousfield.

The EPS’s exhibition will be on the upper level near Entrance 5, close to Woolworths.
