Kloof Road family tied up during robbery

The five suspects entered the house on foot and tied up everyone in the house, including children, before taking valuables.

The Bedfordview SAPS has confirmed it is investigating a case of house robbery following a home invasion on Kloof Road last night.

Bedfordview SAPS spokesperson, Sergeant Mduduzi Nhlabathi, said five suspects entered the house on foot and tied up everyone in the house, including children, before taking valuables.

“The men left with, among other valuables, a laptop, cellular phones and a television,” he said.

Sgt Nhlabathi said the car was later recovered in Alexandra.

Messages of support poured in for the family from neighbours as well as residents.

One neighbour posted on social media, “My heart goes out to this family and especially the children. Please ensure that counseling is recommended.”

Another said, “My thoughts are with the family. Unfortunately they [criminals] are so brazen they come whenever, wherever.”

The chairperson for the Bedfordview Community Policing Forum (BCPF), Mr Gavin Henry, said the time of the crime was interesting to note as home invasions usually take place during the day.

A source close to the investigation said the suspects are thought to have come in from the Bill Stuart Nature Reserve.

“The trees and grass are so dense there that criminals can disappear within minutes. They can, at times, use this area to hide while observing the comings and goings of families whose houses they target,” said the source.
