Ward councillor involved in Terrace Road accident.

Another accident has taken place along the notorious Terrace Road, this time involving two youngsters and a ward councillor.

According to ward 19 councillor Clr Bill Rundle, two youngsters who were allegedly under the influence of alcohol, collided with a local resident’s car after first knocking down a traffic light.

“Last night, Ms Sally Nene and ward councillor, Clr Heather Hart, became accident victims along this infamous road when two drunk, speeding youngsters flattened a pole, knocked down a traffic light and then collided with Ms Nene’s car. Both Ms Nene and Clr Hart are fine. The criminals tried to flee the scene, however Clr Hart managed to photograph a blue car and take the registration number. The driver was apprehended,” said Clr Rundle

Furthermore, a statement by the DA reads that the party has been calling on the municipality to introduce traffic calming measures in the area for a number of years.

“It is critical that the Edenvale community takes a stand and lets the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality know that this is unacceptable. The municipality has a duty to ensure our roads are safe and to prevent further accidents and road deaths in the area. The DA will be submitting a petition to the Ekurhuleni Council, calling on the municipality to immediately introduce traffic calming measures in the Edenvale area, particularly along Terrace Road,” read the statement.
