Primary school pupils arrested for dagga possession

"According to the principal of the school, this was not the first time the boys have been found in possession of dagga."

The Sebenza SAPS confirmed that two pupils from a primary school in the station’s jurisdiction were arrested on September 29 for possession of dagga.

The Sebenza SAPS communications officer, Constable Sharon Mahamba-Tsotsotso, said she received a call from the principal of the school regarding five pupils who were found with dagga on the school premises. The SAPS officers proceeded to the school immediately.

“Upon arrival, we spoke to the pupils and our investigation showed that only two of them were in possession, the other three were not involved,” said Const Tsotsotso.

“According to the principal of the school, this was not the first time the boys have been found in possession of dagga on the school premises . They have been given warnings before and the matter reported to the boys’ parents. The principal decided to call the police this time,” said Const Tsotsotso.

She said the pupils were charged with possession of dagga and released in the care of their parents as they are both minors.

More investigations are expected to follow.
